What to expect at your first appointment
If this is your first-time massage experience
Congrats, you are in for a real treat!
There are few things in life as healthy and rewarding as a professional therapeutic massage. New clients may have a few questions, but hesitant to ask. I have listed a few of the more common questions below.
We require that all massage clients fill out an intake form to obtain general health information. The information provided helps the therapist to navigate and tailor the session to you. Medications for pain, high blood pressure or blood thinners are vital to disclose. If feeling ill or “off” the day of -it is best to reschedule to a different time. Massage can worsen the symptoms of a cold or the flu.
We recommend removing jewelry before arriving. Some clients prefer to completely undress for their massage session- if this seems intimidating please know that therapists are trained in sheet draping to make you feel secure and covered the entire time.
Massage normally begins with clients face down in the face rest on the table. If you have difficulty laying in this position, let the therapist know and they can accommodate your body position. Mention if uncomfortable with bodywork on certain areas such as the glutes, feet, stomach, etc. When a therapist speaks about pressure, they are referring to the force they are exerting on your body at various times. It is imperative that you, the client, speak up if you are not at ease at any time. It is your time- make it as enjoyable as possible!
